Andrea Grymes Biography
Andrea Grymes is an American Journalist working at CBS News, New York, serving as a General Assignment Reporter since she became part of the network in July 2013. Before joining the station, Grymes worked at WNYW-TV as a reporter.
Education/Career
Grymes studied political science and journalism and graduated with magna cum laude from Southern Methodist University based in Dallas. Andrea is currently performing her duties as a general assignment reporter at CBS News since she became part of the network in July 2013. She co-anchors the morning newscasts on weekends as well and has contributed to WCBS on a variety of stories. To cover President Donald Trump’s first overseas trip, she went to Italy and Israel in 2017.
In addition, she has also provided live reports from the US Capitol and the White House. Apart from political coverage, Grymes has also written about Pope Francis’ visit to New York, the arrest of the culprit in the Chelsea and Seaside Heights bombings, the fatal Amtrak crash in Philadelphia, and the 2015 playoff run of the Mets.
Andrea has previously worked as a reporter in New York since March 2013 for WNYW-TV. Her most significant jobs were helping with the reconstruction after Hurricane Sandy, coordinating Prince Harry’s vacation to Harlem, and assisting with local security following the Boston Marathon attacks.
Andrea began working as a reporter for News 12 Networks in 2006. She worked for News 12 Brooklyn, News 12 Long Island, and News 12 The Bronx for almost seven years. Grymes shot and edited the majority of her own stories in addition to anchoring and reporting them.
At News 12, she covered a variety of stories, such as the Nixzmary Brown murder trials, the Miracle on the Hudson, Pope Benedict’s visit to New York, and the sentence of Bernie Madoff. Andrea worked as a production assistant at Fox News Channel before joining News 12; she had previously interned there while in college.
When she was sixteen years old, while presenting the morning announcements for her high school’s television station, she discovered her passion for television news. She and her Texas classmates broke the story of the terrorist attacks in the cities of New York and Washington, D.C. on September 11, 2001. Andrea’s decision to become a broadcast journalist was cemented that day.
