David Ushery Biography
David Ushery is an African-American Emmy Award-Winning Anchor and Reporter working as a Weekday 4 pm, 7 pm, and 11 pm news anchor for NBC 4 New York. He joined the station in August 2003 after working as a Reporter and Anchor for WABC-TV in the Greater New York City Area.
Education | Career
Ushery attended and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a double major in Political Science and Journalism. He was a staff writer for the Hartford Courant newspaper while at the university. This was an opportunity for him to hone his skills in covering local politics and events.
Later on, he reported for the Los Angeles Times and WFSB-TV hired him immediately after graduating. He was hired as the station’s News reporter and served for 3 years and 11 months. He covered many stories impacting the everyday lives of the citizens of Connecticut’s capital city. David had the opportunity to travel to Moscow after the fall of the Soviet Union for a story on policing.
David landed a job as a general assignment reporter for WABC-TV in New York City in August 1993. He was part of the station’s coverage of the police investigations into the shooting death of Amadou Diallo and the torture of Abner Louima. He also covered the deaths of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and John F. Kennedy, Jr. and the September 11 terrorist attacks.
In 2003, he joined WNBC-TV and has been working here ever since as a 4, 7, and 11 pm news anchor. As an Anchor he has had the opportunity to cover the most memorable events in the Tri-State area. In 2018, he traveled to Houston, Texas to deliver live updates following the funeral of former President George W Bush. Additionally, he took viewers to the front lines in Gaza and the West Bank, where massive protests led to confrontations with police.
