Barney attended and graduated from the University of North Florida with a Degree in Communication, Journalism, and Related Programs. He then joined the University Christian School in 1993 graduating in 1994. He also studied at Florida State College in Jacksonville for 4 years graduating in 1998.
Justin currently serves as a Sports Editor at News4JAX in Jacksonville, Florida. He joined the station in February 2019 and has been working here ever since. From a young age, Barney has always been fascinated by sports and he ended up not playing but writing about sports.
Justin began his career as a Sports Reporter and General Assignment Reporter for The Florida Times. He served here for 3 years and 4 months leaving in November 2001. Justin then landed a job as a Sports Editor for St. Augustine Record. He worked there for a decade and left in December 2011.
Before joining his current station he worked as a Sports Editor for The Florida Times. During his tenure there he focused on local sports including high school and college games. He spent a season and a half covering the Jacksonville covering the Jacksonville Suns. Some of his most memorable events over the years include covering Tim Tebow, Derrick Henry, and Ryan Freel.
