Pegler attended and graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism. He interned at WMBD-TV while at the university and later got hired as a reporter at the station. He currently serves the station as a Sports Director.
Over the years of his professional career, he has covered the Major League Baseball postseason, the NCAA Final Four, PGA and LPGA Tour events, and NFL, NBA, and NHL games. Some of his favorite reports include reporting on local sports and covering local athletes in Central Illinois.
Pegler has been a finalist for the best downstate sportscast award presented by the Illinois Broadcasters Association every year since 1993. He won the honor in 1994, 2003, and 2004. Additionally, he has done play-by-play work for local broadcasts of Missouri Valley Conference men’s and women’s basketball games since 1993.
Kurt has called the state tournament boys and girls basketball finals for the Illinois High School Association TV network since 2000. Besides his professional career, Kurt is also active in the community and served on the Greater Peoria YMCA board. He also serves the Peoria Leadership Prayer Breakfast committee and the area Operation Christmas Child committee.
He has co-hosted the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Easter Seals telethons for WMBD 31. Kurt is a regular emcee at local charity golf events and awards luncheons, speaks to scores of civic and church groups, and frequently reads to elementary school students in area classrooms. When off his duties, Kurti enjoys playing gold and having a good time outdoors.
