Education | Career
Maragos attended and graduated from Loyola Academy in Wilmette with a high school diploma. Later on, he joined Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia graduating in 2013, with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. While in college, Alex was a baseball player for 4 years and interned at news/talk WLS-AM 890, ESPN Radio WMVP-AM 1000, and NBC Sports Chicago.
Maragos currently serves as a weekday 11 am and 4 pm anchor at NBC 5 Chicago. He also contributes stories to NBC 5’s Investigates unit. Alex initially served as the station’s general assignment reporter, was promoted to weekend evening anchor, and later assumed his current role. He also anchored NBC 5 News Today. Upon joining the station, he worked as a general assignment reporter.
In 2022, Alex went to Beijing, China where he broadcasted the Winter Olympic Games for 30 days. Since 2016, he worked for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon as the start and finish line reporter. Before joining the station he worked in West Lafayette, Indiana at WLFI as a morning anchor and reporter for 2 years. There, the Society of Professional Journalists and the Indiana Broadcasters Association awarded him for breaking news and feature reporting.
