McCarty attended and graduated from the University of Georgia where she majored in Digital and Broadcast Journalism and minored in Spanish and History. While in college she helped report, anchor, and produce the school’s local news program.
Journalism was not her passion from the start but after a while it was. She decided to seriously pursue broadcast news after listening to professors and mentors at the University of Georgia gush about the excitement and chaos of the business.
After graduating Alma started her career and spent two years as a reporter in Augusta, Georgia at WRDW News 12, before heading to Greensboro, North Carolina to report for WFMY News 2 in 2017. She’s met some incredible people willing to share their stories along the way.
McCarty is a multi-skilled journalist and reporter for KGW News and has been part of the KGW team since October 2021. When free, Alma enjoys reading, trying new restaurants, and getting outside to run, walk, and hike. Alma is excited to explore the city and surrounding areas.
