Carolyn Gusoff is an American Award-winning News Personality working at WCBS, a CBS News New York affiliate, serving as a Reporter since she became part of the network in January 2012. Formerly, Gusoff worked at Fox 5 as an On-air news reporter.
Education
Gusoff studied at Cornell University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Government. She further pursued her education by attending Columbia University where she attained her master’s degree in Journalism. Throughout her time there, she worked as the chief editor of the Cornellian and as an intern in the US Congress for US Senators Alfonse D’Amato and Joe Biden.

Carolyn is presently performing her duties at CBS Network as a reporter since she joined the station in January 2012. She is well-known for being a reliable, persistent, dependable, and compassionate voice for the issues facing Long Island. Her WCBS-TV documentary 37% revealed the startling dysfunction of a Long Island school system that has one of the lowest rates of graduation in the nation.
Prior to joining WCBS-TV, Gusoff worked at Fox5 WNYW for three years, where she frequently covered the day’s top story on Good Day New York. She had spent fifteen years working for WNBC before that. For five years, she co-anchored the station’s highly regarded Saturday and Sunday morning program “Weekend Today in New York” in addition to her reporting duties as the bureau chief for Long Island.
Carolyn came to NBC from News 12 Long Island, where she was recognized for her in-depth reporting on national events like the Amy Fisher/Joey Buttafuoco controversy, the Tankleff murders, and the kidnapping of Katie Beers. She also worked as a stand-in anchor for the first 24-hour regional news network in the country. Her first job in broadcasting was as an anchor and reporter for the ABC affiliate in Fort Myers, Florida, WEVU-TV.

Gusoff covered the historic storm’s effects for 36 hours straight during the Blizzard of ’96, and she has been in the midst of almost every significant meteorological disaster that has affected the New York region since. Her co-authorship of Buried Memories with Katie Beers has made her a New York Times best-selling author. She has twice survived breast cancer and the difficulty of working as a mother. She speaks passionately and humorously about these issues in public.

She has received numerous accolades, including four New York Emmy Awards, seventeen New York Emmy nominations for beat reporting, writing, research, and environmental reporting, and she was a member of the winning team that won an Emmy for WCBS’s coverage of Superstorm Sandy. In addition, Carolyn’s coverage of the Mepham Hazing Scandal earned him a New York Emmy Award for On-Camera Performance/General Assignment Reporting.
Many of Long Island’s adopted roadways have finally been cleaned up as a result of her investigative piece “Littered Landscape” for CBS New York, which also won a 2020 Emmy Award, a First Place New York AP Award, a LI Press Club award, and a FOLIO award.
