Yates attended and graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 2008 with a degree in meteorology. He also holds a CBM Certification from the American Meteorological Society. After graduation, he briefly worked with the Twister Tornado research team and assisted in deploying probes and instruments in front of tornadoes.
Yates currently works as a Chief Meteorologist at WMBD in Peoria, Illinois. Before joining his current station, He was a meteorologist at KGWN in Cheyenne, WY. Chris is ready to take on the unpredictable weather of Central Illinois and is proud to be WMBD/WYZZ’s Chief Meteorologist.
Over the years of his professional career, he has received several award nominations and recognitions. Chris was awarded 1st Place for “Weather Person of the Year” from the Wyoming Association of Broadcasters in June 2010, 2011, and 2012.
When off his duties, Chris enjoys spending time with his family and playing and watching sports. His favorite football team is the Denver Broncos and his favorite baseball team is the Colorado Rockies. He also loves singing and was the lead singer of a local cover band back in Wyoming.
