Christy Henderson Biography
Christy Henderson is an American Meteorologist working as a Chief Meteorologist and Weekday Evening Meteorologist at WSPA-TV (7NEWS) in South Carolina. She has been part of the station since 2003 and anchors weekend evening weathercasts at 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, and 11 pm.
Education | Career
Christy attended and graduated from Texas A&M University and earned a B.S. degree in Meteorology in 1995. She currently serves as a Weekday Evening Meteorologist at WSPA-TV in South Carolina. Christy is also the station’s Chief Meteorologist and has been part of the station since 2003.
She forecasts weather on weekday evenings at 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, and 11 pm. In addition to her television duties, she also forecasts the weather for two area radio stations and consults with Spartanburg District 5 Schools to ensure planned activities stay safe from dangerous weather.
Christy’s first job was in Waco, Texas where after 8 months of working weekends there she moved to WVUE the Fox affiliate in New Orleans. She served there for more than three years as the weekend meteorologist and was later promoted to do the 5 pm weekday weather.
During her stay in New Orleans, she became interested in studying tropical weather and she was on the air as Hurricane Danny moved across Plaquemines parish in Southeast Louisiana (1997) and when Hurricane Georges (1998) threatened the New Orleans and coastal areas before making landfall near Biloxi, Mississippi.
From New Orleans, she moved on to Atlanta, Georgia, where she spent over 3 years as the morning meteorologist on “Good Day Atlanta”. She also broadcasted the weather during the noon show each day. Additionally, Christy freelanced in Washington, D.C., and Texas at WJLA-TV and KTVT, the CBS affiliate in Fort Worth, before joining WSPA-TV as the Chief Meteorologist.
As of 2024 Christy is a member of the American Meteorological Society and is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist. She is a 6-time winner of the South Carolina Broadcasters Association Weathercaster of the Year and a 3-time winner of SCBA’s Personality of the Year for 2015, 2016, and 2017. Besides peer recognition, Christy has also won Spartanburg’s “Best of the Best” award which is won by popular vote.
