Dan Bickford Biography
Dan Bickford is an American Meteorologist working as a Weekend Meteorologist at WSPA-TV (7NEWS) in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He is also the host of a segment called Carolina Blends and Bews which airs on WSPA-TV at 11 pm. Dan is happy to serve the South Carolina people and is honored to be a member of the WSPA-TV weather team.
Education | Career
Bickford attended and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in December 1993 with a Bachelor Of Science and Master Of Science degree in Meteorology. During his time in college, his interest in strong storms continued to grow, and he later decided that this would be his path. He even has the opportunity to work as a storm chaser for two spring seasons for KOCO in Oklahoma City.
Additionally, Bickford worked at KSWO in Lawton as the weekend meteorologist for a year and a half. Furthermore, he also worked as the captain of the University of Oklahoma water polo team. Dan also studied at the National Severe Storms Laboratory. He currently works as a weekend meteorologist at WSPA-TV (7NEWS) in South Carolina.
After graduating in December of 1993, Dan became the chief meteorologist at KOAM-TV in Joplin for seven years. During that period, Dan became heavily involved in severe weather education. As a result, he became a local emergency management group member and became involved in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Project Impact campaign to mitigate severe weather losses.
As of 2024 he is a member of the American Meteorological Society and holds their “Certified Broadcast Meteorologist” designation. Dan is one of the few people who have heard the opportunity to serve a term on the Society’s Board of Broadcast Meteorology, their Committee on the Station Scientist and is a three-time president of the Society’s Upstate Chapter.
