Deirdre Fitzpatrick Biography
Deirdre Fitzpatrick is a four-time Emmy award-winning News Anchor, Writer, and Reporter working for KCRA as a Weekday Morning News anchor and reporter. She joined the station in 1997 as a weekend morning anchor after leaving KCCI-TV in Des Moines, Iowa where she was serving as a Weekend Anchor and Reporter.
Education | Career
Fitz as she is known in the newsroom went to the University of Missouri-Columbia where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. In 1994, she got a job as an anchor at KCCI TV and served there for three years, she left the station in 1997.
In December 1997, shortly after leaving KCCI TV, Fitz was lucky to land her current job at KCRA where she took the role of a weekend morning anchor. Fitz was asked Three times to serve as a weekday morning anchor but always turned down the offer. According to her, waking up so early 5 days a week was too much. She later agreed to take up the role and she now says that staying awake up to 11 p.m to read out loud is something she can’t imagine, ironic isn’t it?
Alongside Mike Domalaog who is a KCRA photographer, Fitz has really traveled the world as a member of the Hearst Television Olympic Team. In fact, they have been able to cover the last nine Olympics- 2016 Rio de Janeiro, 2014 Sochi, 2012 London, 2010 Vancouver, 2008 Beijing, 2006 Torino, 2004 Athens, 2002 Salt Lake City, and 2000 Sydney.
Good to note that, Deirdre is an Ironman triathlete (2013 Ironman Tahoe, and 2002 Ironman Wisconsin}, an ultra-runner, and an 18-time marathoner. Additionally, she is on the board of the Sacramento Running Association.
