Carney attended and graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication with an emphasis on Media Studies. After graduating he joined KRBC-TV in Abilene, Texas as a Sports Director. He served the station for a year and 3 months and left the station in November 1999.
In December 1999 he joined WJAC-TV in Johnstown, Pennsylvania as a Reporter and Sports Anchor. He served the station for 10 months and left in September 2000 joining KPDX-TV/FOX 49 in Portland, Oregon as a Sports Anchor and Reporter. Drew was promoted to Sports Director in August 2001 a position he held till his departure in July 2002.
Before joining his current station, Drew worked as a News Personality for KPTV in Portland, Oregon. He spent 4 years and 2 months covering morning newscasts and left the station in August 2006. He now serves as a Morning Show News Anchor and Host for KGW-T Portland, Oregon.
