Fred Shropshire Biography
Fred Shropshire is an American Anchor and Reporter working as a Weekday Evening News Anchor at NBC10 Philadelphia. He has been part of the station news team since joining the station in June 2023. He came to NBC10 after serving as a Weeday Evening Anchor for WCNC-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina for 8 years and 1 month. Fred now anchors NBC10’s 6, 7, and 11 pm newscasts.
Education | Career
Shropshire attended and graduated from UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media with a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism. While pursuing his degree he interned at CNN Atlanta and KCBS in Los Angeles.
After graduating, he joined WCTI 12 in Jackson as a General Assignment Reporter and Bureau Chief Reporter. While there he reported live breaking news for noon, 5, and 6 pm newscasts. He also covered the 2000 Osprey Crash outside of Jacksonville. Fred served the station from July 2000 to January 2002.
Immediately after leaving WCTI 12, he landed a job as a General Assistant Reporter for WXII-TV in Greensboro, North Carolina. He spent two years and 1 month serving this statin and left the station in January 2004. Fred reported extensively on Jennifer Short’s Kidnapping and the murder in Henry County, VA. Additionally, he reported on Air MidwestFlight 5481 plane crash out of Charlotte Douglass.
In February 2004, Fred joined WGN-TV in the Greater Chicago Area as a General Assignment Reporter and Fill-In Anchor. After leaving WGN-TV in February 2007, Fred landed a job as a 4, 5:30 pm Weekday Anchor and Primary Substitute Evening Anchor for WTVD-TV. His last stop before joining his current station was WCNC-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina. He served the station as a Weekday Evening Anchor from June 2015 to June 2023.

Fred now serves as a Weekday Evening News Anchor for NBC10 in Philadelphia. He has been part of the station since June 2023 and anchors NBC10’s 6, 7, and 11 pm. Fred is passionate about his work and loves connecting with people and telling their stories to the world. When free he loves spending time with his family, traveling, and trying out new foods and restaurants.
