Education | Career

Waldman earned her meteorology and communications degrees from Pennsylvania State University between 2010 and 2013.

Before her relocation to the West, Heather aired on the evening news for the NBC affiliate in Buffalo, New York. Here she made comprehensive weather coverage including lake effect snow, heat waves, and big wind storms. She also steered climate change coverage. Heather was the first meteorologist to broadcast important stories on the impact of global warming in the region.

Waldman’s career began when she worked as an intern for Sony Student Experience at NAB in Las Vegas, Nevada Area where she was attached for a month in April 2013. She was among the four students chosen as representatives for Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics as an assistant in Sony’s booth at the 2013 NAB Show. Here she trained and was experienced in Sony’s Media Backbone Services, where she interacted with Sony’s biggest customers.

Thereafter in May 2013, Heather joined AccuWeather as a Forecasting Intern at State College in the Pennsylvania Area. This is where she gained experience in forecasting across the country and where she was exposed to other experienced meteorologists and covered the entire country. She produced written weather forecasts for radio and television stations and gained expertise with the Galileo and Cinema Live weather graphics systems. Her major role was distributing forecasts to dozens of AccuWeather’s newspaper clients. She remained in the role for 7 months until she was promoted.

Heather loves football and considers herself an adopted Buffalo Bills fan. Her hobbies include running, biking, swimming, and hiking. She is a Cat Mum to Albus.

Career Growth-AccuWeather

In 2014 Waldman was promoted to Broadcast Meteorologist and maintained this post for 3 years. She delivered live and live-to-tape forecasts for AccuWeather’s online and television clients across the country. Most of her shows were on national networks like Fox Business, ABC World News, The SEC Network, The Big10 Network, and ESPN.

Heather became part of the AccuWeather Television Network team In January 2016. She was mostly airing on the morning show from 6-10 am. Her responsibilities grew to live blocks covering the day’s major weather stories with in-depth analysis.

As part of her career growth, Heather joined WGRZ-TV in Buffalo/Niagara, New York Area where she worked for close to 5 years as an Evening Meteorologist. She aired on two weeknight newscasts at 5:30 and 11 on WGRZ – Channel 2 (NBC). She spiced her shows with interesting weather stories as well as innovative graphics. Heather’s recap of Buffalo’s infamous Blizzard of ’77 won a New York State Murrow Award for ‘Excellence in Innovation’. Her working-from-home experience in 2020 increased her social media presence. Her creativity in drawing popular cartoon personalities in her background captivated her audience. Heather’s Weather Whys and Climate Minute increased her footprint on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

Heather is currently a full-time Meteorologist and Climate Change Reporter at KCRA 3 and My58 Television in Sacramento, California, United States since she joined them in December 2021. Her role entails creating climate-related content for KCRA’s newscasts and digital platforms together with photographers and producers. Additionally, she fills in the role of traditional broadcast meteorologist in the morning, midday, and evening newscasts.
