Education/Career
Following his high school graduation, Wieland pursued meteorology at Florida State University, renowned for its excellence in the field. In 1996, he successfully earned a B.S. degree in meteorology, accompanied by a minor in mathematics and broadcasting.

Transitioning to Baltimore, Maryland, to join Sinclair Broadcasting’s News Central marked a significant milestone in his career. Despite being a thousand miles away in his Baltimore studio, James was ready for the challenge. Adeptly mastering forecasting for three different stations each night, he tackled snowstorms, tornadoes, and heatwaves with precision. Remarkably, he also provided live coverage of Hurricanes Dennis and Charlie as they struck the Florida coastlines.
