Janice Huff Biography
Janice Huff is an American Meteorologist working as a Chief Meteorologist for NBC 4 New York. She assumed her chief meteorologist role in 1997 after joining the station in 1995 as a weekend Meteorologist. Huff delivers weather reports for the station’s 5, 6, and 11 pm newscasts.
Education | Career
Huff attended and graduated from Florida State University with a major in Meteorology. She joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority while at the university. Huff also holds the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval for television Weathercasting. After graduating, she landed a job as a weekend meteorologist for WTVC, the ABC affiliate in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
In 1983, he joined WRBL in Columbus as a Meteorologist and Science Reporter. Huff also served as an on-air meteorologist for KSDK where he covered the Crystal Apple awards. Her next stop was San Francisco where she served as an on-air meteorologist for KRON. She also hosted the station’s show titled “Bay Area’s Best Bets.”
At KRON, Huff was named a “Clean Air Hero” by the American Lung Association for her work in promoting cleaner air and healthier lungs. In 1992, she introduced the nationally syndicated “Weather School” program to the Bay Area. The program promoted science education with an emphasis on meteorology.
In January 1995, Janice joined WNBC (NBC 4 New York) as a weekend meteorologist for “Today in New York”. She also partook in other roles in this station before her promotion to chief meteorologist. She now serves as the station’s chief meteorologist and her weathercasts can be seen on weekdays at 5, 6, and 11 pm.

Over the years of her career, Huff has been awarded numerous awards and recognitions. In 2011, she was honored at 1199 SEIU / Employer Child Care Corporation’s 5th Annual Care for Kids Gala for her dedication to children in the New York City area and children around the world. She was also recognized at the Family Focus Adoption Services (FFAS) Gala for her work on behalf of adoptable children in the New York City area through Wednesday’s Child.
Her other professional awards include Bronx Community College’s 1995 Kaleidoscope Award for excellence in television meteorology, and a St. Louis Emmy Award for Best Weathercaster (1988). As of 2024, Huff is a member of the American Meteorological Society, the National Association of Black Journalists, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
