JC Navarrete is an American Emmy Award Winning Anchor and Reporter working as a Sunday Morning Anchor and Reporter at NBC 5 Chicago. He joined the station in January 2022 after spending 6 years at KVIA in El Paso as a Weekend Anchor and Reporter.
Education | Career
Navarrete attended and graduated from the Univerity of Texas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism and a minor in Film in 2015. While in college, he worked as a staff reporter for the University’s student publication the Prospector Daily. worked for the Prospector Daily, the university’s student publication, as a staff reporter. Navarrete also worked for KVIA as a cameraman, which allowed him to familiarize himself with the business.
Navarrete currently serves as a reporter and Sunday Morning Anchor at NBC 5 Chicago. He joined the station in January 2022 and has been working here ever since. He came to Chicago after serving KVIA in El Paso, Texas as a weekend anchor and reporter for 6 years. Navarrete is fully bilingual in English and Spanish and is excited about the opportunities to work with his colleagues at Telemundo.
Over the year of his professional career, he has broadcasted various news occasions including investigative stories, crime, breaking news, elections, and traffic reporting. Navarrete has had the opportunity to explore many roles in the journalism business like anchor, producer, and reporter. Since moving to Chicago, he has involved himself with Chicago culture and traditions such as participating in the Polar Plunge, and frequents deep-dish pizza.
On April 5, 2024, Navarete shared a post on his Instagram account where he was grateful for having been allowed to participate in 2024’s @amdwcc competition. In the completion, he made new friends and learned a new skill. Additionally, he was grateful to his coaches @elivia.moss and @arthurmurraychicago for being patient with him during his dance training.
