Jen Maxfield Biography
Jen Maxfield is an American Emmy Award-Winning correspondent, Anchor, and Reporter working as an Anchor at NBC 4 New York. She joined the station in April 2013 as a Substitute Anchor and Reporter and as of 2024, she is an Adjunct Professor at Seton Hall University. She is also the author of More After the Break.
Education
Maxfield attended and graduated from Columbia University where she first earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and later in 2000 she earned her Masters of Arts in Broadcast Journalism. While still studying, she interned at CNN and worked as a Production Assistant and Guest Booker for CNNfn in New York.
Career
In July 2000, she rejoined WIVT-TV in Binghamton, New York as an Anchor and Reporter. After a year and 4 months, she left the station in October 2001. Her next stop was WIXT-TV in Syracuse, NY where she served as a General Assignment Reporter for WIXT-TV. She left WIXT-TV in October 2002 after a year and one month.
From October 2002 to January 2013, Maxfield served as a General Assignment Reporter for ABC7 New York. For nearly a decade Maxfield served as an Adjunct Professor for Columbia University-Graduate School of Journalism. She joined NBC 4 New York in April 2013 and has been working here since. She is the station’s anchor and reporter throughout the week. As of 2024, she is an Adjunct Professor at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, United States.
Maxfield has covered many of the Tri-State’s most memorable and powerful stories including the sudden resignation of New Jersey Governor James McGreevey, Captain Sullenberger’s “Miracle on the Hudson”, the devastation of Superstorm Sandy and the response to the 2016 New York/New Jersey terror attacks, among many others. Her anchoring and reporting contributed to NBC 4 New York’s award-winning COVID-19 coverage.
Maxfield is also active in the community and is a longtime volunteer and former member of the Board of Directors for the Center for Food Action in Englewood. Additionally, she serves on the Board of Visitors at Columbia College, and volunteers in New York and New Jersey non-profits including The Opportunity Network, Bergen Family Center, and JCC on the Palisades, among others.
