Laural Porter is an Award-Winning American Anchor working as a Weeknight News Anchor for KGW in Portland, Oregon. She joined KGW-TV in September 2000 after working as a News Anchor for WESH-TV for 3 years.
Education | Career
Laural attended and graduated from the University of California where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications. During her school years, she was named the UCSB Communication Department’s Outstanding Graduate. After graduating, she joined KIFI News Group where she served as a News Anchor for 2 years. Before joining her current station she worked as a News Anchor for WESH-TV from 1997 to 2000.
Career at KGW
Porter is now a weeknight news anchor at KGW in Portland, Oregon. Laural also co-anchors KGW News at 11 and hosts KGW’s current affairs show “Straight Talk,” which airs Saturday evenings at 6:30 p.m. One of Laural’s career highlights came in February of 2015 when she was invited to interview President Obama at the White House on trade issues.
Besides that, she was the only Oregon anchor and one of only four nationwide to meet with the President and members of his Cabinet and then report live from the White House. Laural is also an actively involved individual in the community and has run the Portland Marathon several times and qualified for the Boston Marathon.
One of the most rewarding things of her life is serving the community and she has run marathons for the Leukemia Society’s “Team in Training” and over the years raised $7,000 for the Society. Additionally, Laural served for several years as the honorary co-chair for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Portland and Vancouver. Laural was one of the race’s top 100 fundraisers for three years.
As of 2024, Porter volunteers with the Achon Uganda Children’s Fund to help children left orphaned by the Civil War and to help improve the quality of life for people in Northern Uganda. Her interest in this matter arose after doing a story with founder, Julius Achon, a former Olympic runner from Uganda, who lived in Beaverton.

Over the years of her career, Laural has won numerous awards and recognitions. In 2015 she won the Northwest Regional Emmy for best host and moderator of Straight Talk. Together with photojournalist Kurt Austin, they won the 2015 regional Edward R Murrow Award for feature reporting.
In 2011 Laural was also awarded the prestigious national Edward R Murrow Award for feature reporting. Additionally, she won a national award from the Mental Health Association for her coverage of mental health issues. Laural is also a six-time Northwest Regional Emmy Award winner and 2012 winner of a Western Regional Associated Press award for feature reporting.
