Liz Hurley is an American Emmy Award-winning Journalist working at WAFF TV serving as an Anchor since she joined the station. Formerly, Hurley worked at NBC News Channel as an Anchor and Reporter.
Education | Career
Hurley graduated from the FBI Citizens Academy and Leadership in Huntsville-Madison County. She also serves as an ambassador for the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology. As the main anchor of WAFF-TV in Huntsville, Alabama, Liz is an Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist who brings more than three decades of authority, credibility, and sensitivity to the program. She covers NASA (the civil space business from the start of the Space Shuttle Program) and now the emerging commercial space industry as the anchor of the daily newscasts at four, five, and six pm.
She also conducts the live, annual Veterans Day Parade in Huntsville and creates special stories and specials, most of which are centered on medical and biotech advances. Hurley covered the Centennial Olympic Games for NBC News Channel in 1996 as a field anchor and reporter while taking a vacation from local news.
Hurley firmly believes that local television news coverage may be used to bring about beneficial changes in a community by providing factual information to the public, safeguarding consumers, lending a hand to those in need, and raising awareness of health-related issues.
Foundations
After overcoming breast cancer for 21 years, Hurley “pays it forward” by offering advice to other women dealing with comparable medical issues. She is nominated for an Emmy for a series that follows her treatment and recovery from breast cancer. She started the Huntsville Hospital Foundation’s Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund and Liz Hurley Ribbon Run.
The foundation supplies state-of-the-art equipment to the breast centers at Madison Hospital and Huntsville Hospital, which treat women across the nation with diagnostic services. Along with supporting the Surviving and Thriving Program, a post-treatment support group, the Fund also pays for low-income women’s prescription drugs and other expenses. The Fund has raised 5.4 million dollars so far. Liz is a member of numerous civic organizations, has served on numerous community boards, and frequently gives keynote addresses at colleges, universities, and other gathering places.

Murrow Awards, the Alabama Broadcasters Association, the Associated Press, and the Radio Television Digital News Association for Best Newscast, Best Reporter, Best Planned Event Coverage, and Best Anchor. Furthermore, Liz also won multiple Gold Awards from the Huntsville Times Readers’ Choice.

Hurley has received numerous awards for her community service, including the Girl Scouts Woman of Distinction Award, the Huntsville Hospital Volunteer of the Year Award, the Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Award from Alpha Tau Alpha Fraternity, the Distinguished Doctor of Philanthropy Award from Huntsville Hospital Foundation, the Ruby Award Winner from Soroptimist International, and the Community Service Citation from the Interfaith Mission Service. More than 35 years ago, Hurley also launched one of the first features on homeless animal adoption in the nation on a local television newscast.
