Mark Finan Biography
Mark Finan is a famous award-winning Journalist and the Chief Meteorologist at KCRA-TV in Sacramento California. He is a long-time record holder of the ‘Best TV Weather Person’ according to Sacramento Magazine since 2000.
Education | Career
Finan graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology at the University of Utah. Thereafter he began his television career in forecasting in Portland, Maine. He later worked in Rochester, New York, before coming to Sacramento where he eventually joined the KCRA 3 team.
Mark joined the KCRA team in 1991, although his passion for the weather began way before then. Mark has reported all major weather events since he arrived in KCRA, ranging from heatwaves in summer to floods in the winter, and tornadoes in the spring.
In addition, he is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society. Good to note that, Mark was the first meteorologist in the country to earn this title. Outside work, you will find him exploring the wine country, cycling, or golfing.
Mark Finan is Retiring!
After having served KCRA 3 for 33 years, Mark finally announced in April 2024 that he wished to leave the station. His wish is to spend time behind the camera henceforth. Mark started his television career in Portland, Maine, he then moved to Rochester, New York, and later, in 1991, he landed his current job in Sacramento. He has not revealed exactly where he is going but we will soon find out.
