Michael Williams is an American journalist at WPTV in Florida United States where he serves as a reporter and News anchor. Before he joined the News Channel 5 team in March 2011, he worked as a Political reporter at WFOR in Miami.
Education /Career
Williams graduated with a high school diploma and later joined the University of Florida where he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Radio and Television. He has been serving as a News Anchor and Reporter at WPTV News Channel 5 since March 2011, to date.
Immediately after graduating, Michael began his career at WTVX in Fort Pierce. Before that, he spent two years as a reporter at Scripps’ WCPO in Cincinnati. As a journalist, Michael worked at WSVN, the Fox affiliate, from 1984 to 2006, where he covered various stories. He also managed to cover major events in Miami for WTVJ (NBC), including, the 2000 Florida presidential election controversy, the fall of Eastern Airlines, the visit to Miami of Pope John Paul II, Hurricane Andrew, and the custody battle over Elian Gonzalez. Additionally, he boasts overseas credentials, having reported from South Africa, Panama, Colombia, Haiti, and Cuba.
Williams worked with NBC News Channel as a Washington-based national correspondent from 2002 to 2004. During this time, he also covered significant national and international events, including, reporting from the White House, and coverage of Capitol Hill, the Columbia space shuttle tragedy, and the build-up to the war in Iraq.
Micheal served as an Anchor and Reporter at WTVJ/NBC-6 Miami from April 2004 to December 2006. His responsibilities included weekend anchoring, co-anchoring the 11 pm news, and reporting on various news stories. Following this phase, he smoothly transitioned to the role of Senior Manager of Media Relations at Florida Power and Light, where he dedicated 10 months of his professional journey.
Before joining WPTV News Channel 5, Williams served as a political reporter at WFOR in Miami from 2008 and 2010. He covered several important political campaigns, such as securing one-on-one interviews with notable figures such as Barack Obama and others.
