Randy Shaver Biography
Randy Shaver is an American journalist working for KARE 11 serving as a News Anchor and plans to leave the station in June 2024 after working for the station for more than 40 years. Further, Randy is a former prep athlete.
Education | Career
Shaver is a graduate of Iowa State University, he joined KARE 11 before it changed its name, it was called WTCN-TV. He first worked as a weekend sports anchor on January 1, 1983, when he had just turned 24 years old. He then rose through the ranks of the sports department finally he became the station’s sports director in 1994. In 2012, he was promoted to the main anchor alongside Julie Nelson.
Randy is a two-time cancer survivor, and his viewers walked the journey with him during his time at the station. As such, he decided to host The Rush Creek Golf Club where Celebrity Golf Classic benefits the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund. Since 1995, this event has seen the raising of over $12 million used for cancer research and patient help in Minnesota. Randy was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease in June 1998 but is now cancer-free.
During his tenure at KARE 11, Shaver has impacted Minnesota in many positive ways. His devotion to prep sports is recognized, he has honored high school athletes for 4 decades. He has done a very good job both as a sports and news anchor. Additionally, he has inspired very many people as a two-time cancer survivor making them believe that cancer can be healed.
In the Cedar Rapids Jefferson Hall of Fame (Iowa), Shaver was honored as an athlete in 2020 in both football and track. In addition, his good job as an Anchor has been recognized with a regional and national Edward R. Murrow award for sports reporting in 2006 and also a regional Emmy award. Further, the Minnesota Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Minnesota Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2021 inducted him.
