Rick Maranon Biography
Rick Maranon is an American Emmy Award-winning Journalist working at FOX 23 News serving as a Weekend Evening Anchor since he joined the station in March 2014. Formerly, Maranon worked at KVAL-TV as a Multimedia Journalist and Weekend Evening Anchor.
Education | Career
Maranon studied at the University of Oklahoma from August 2008 to May 2012 and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. He produced weekend morning news at the Oklahoma City CBS affiliate while he was a college student. After graduating from university, Rick was hired by KCBY in Coos Bay, Oregon, for his first on-air position.
Following a year on the Oregon coast, he was elevated to the main newsroom of KVAL/KMTR, where he briefly served as the NBC affiliate’s chief meteorologist and reporter. Rick returned to Oklahoma in 2014 to work for FOX23 News, where he has been ever since.
He is currently performing his duties at the FOX 23 News station serving as a Multimedia Journalist and Weekend evening anchor since she obtained employment in March 2014. The Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalists recognized Rick as 2019’s Best Broadcast Reporter in Oklahoma.
For FOX23 News, Maranon focuses on covering politics, aviation, and local government in Tulsa as well as the state of Oklahoma. Before he had even unpacked his first box, Rick, who began his internship at the Tulsa World in 2010, had fallen in love with Green Country and Tulsa.
Maranon has received numerous honors over the years from various local and national professional media associations for a variety of coverage, including breaking news, extreme weather, and investigative pieces about things like perplexing hospital care costs. As the sole reporter from Tulsa, Rick traveled to Roswell, New Mexico on one of American Airlines’ final MD-80 flights to capture the momentous occasion for a major business in Tulsa.
When Rick yelled questions at President Donald Trump in 2020 on the tarmac at Tulsa International Airport next to Air Force One, he was able to capture the president’s attention and received a wave, a smile, and a thumbs up.
