Harbaugh graduated from North Allegheny High School. He then attended and graduated from Ohio University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism. In 2000 he joined Mississippi State University where he graduated with a Certificate in Broadcast Meteorology in 2001.
His meteorology career began while he was still studying. In June 1995 he joined WVVA-TV as a meteorologist. He served the station for 4 years and 2 months and left in July 1999. Scott’s next stop was WTVO where he served as a Chief Meteorologist from 2001 TO 2005. He then joined WPXI as a meteorologist and now serves as the station’s Weekday Morning Meteorologist.
When asked, Scott says that the best part about his job is social media as this is the fastest way to get information instantly. He enjoys interacting with people on social media and the fact that people can get to know more about him not just the weather. Scott considers the Snowmaggedon the biggest wether story he has covered since returning to Pittsburgh. When off his duties he loves exploring the Pittsburgh area and traveling.
