Susan Shaw is an American Anchor and Reporter working as an Evening News Anchor at WOOD TV8 in West Michigan. She has been part of the station for over two decades and is honored to serve the West Michigan folk. She anchors News at 4 pm and 6 pm. Over the years working at WOOD TV8 she has covered major news events in the West Michigan area.
Education | Career
Shaw attended and graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Psychology from Western Michigan University. She currently serves as a main news anchor at WOOD TV8 in West Michigan. Susan anchors News 8 at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. For 2 decades working at WOOD TV8, she has covered major West Michigan News events including the passing of Grand Rapids’ favorite son, President Gerald R. Ford, and later his wife, Betty Ford.
Working in West Michigan is a dream come true for Shaw and she alerts viewers to live, breaking stories daily. Shaw has also been involved in decades of election nights, including the election of Michigan’s first female governor, Gov. Jennifer Granholm, and the elections of Gov. Rick Snyder.
Before joining her current station in October 1994, she worked for WNEM TV5 in the Saginaw/Flint/Bay City/Midland area as the main anchor of the 6 p.m. & 11 p.m. newscasts. Before that, Susan worked at WPDE-TV in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, WEYI-TV25 in Flint, and WWTV 9&10 in Cadillac.
Her professional work has not gone unrecognized and she has received countless awards for her news involvement from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, Associated Press, and the Michigan Emmy Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, including an Emmy for Best News Anchor in Michigan. In 2018, Susan was awarded the prestigious Silver Circle Award.

Susan believes in giving back to the community and has volunteered with numerous charitable organizations. She serves on the grant committee of the Bissell Pet Foundation, helping to find forever homes for shelter animals. Additionally, Susan continues to emcee and host events for dozens of organizations. Examples include Silent Observer and the Van Andel Institute’s Angels of Excellence program.
Susan is also involved with station events like the annual Salvation Army Angel Tree program that provides toys for underprivileged children, the water drives for Flint residents impacted by lead-tainted water, and Nexstar’s Day of Caring initiative.
As of 2024, she is a member of the women’s career organization, Inforum, and the Michigan Emmy Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Notably, Susan has completed disaster preparedness training with the Grand Rapids chapter of the American Red Cross.
