Ted McInerney Biography
Ted McInerney is an American Meteorologist working as a Morning Meteorologist at WMTW in Portland, Maine. He joined the station in January 2016 after working as a Meteorologist at CBS 42 in Birmingham, Alabama Area. He is honored to be part of the WMTW Weather team and happy to serve the Maine people.
Education
Tracking storms has always been Ted’s passion. While growing up in Delmar, New York, 5th grader Ted kept his class updated by creating and posting his very own forecast paper on the door of his classroom.
A couple of years later, Ted videotaped and narrated what was later identified as a funnel cloud. Growing up in upstate New York, Ted quickly developed a fascination for and admiration of snowstorms and winter weather. He didn’t let go of his passion to become a meteorologist and he later pursued this as a profession.
In 2005 Ted joined AIP Language Institue where he learned Spanish. He also attended and graduated from Buffalo State College where he attained his degree in Geography, Meteorology, Climatology, and GIS. While in college he interned at WGRZ-TV in Buffalo, New York. He also interned as a Weathercaster at BSC-TV Campus Media from September 2006 to May 2007.
During his tenure in Buffalo, Ted developed his snow forecasting skills as Lake Erie churned out large snowstorms. In 2007, Ted was awarded the Buffalo State Updraft Award for Excellence in Meteorology.
Ted McInerney Career
Ted currently serves as a Morning Meteorologist at WMTW in Portland, Maine. He has been part of the station since January 2016. Before joining his current station he worked as a Meteorologist at CBS 42 in Birmingham, Alabama Area.
He has also worked as a Meteorologist at WHBF-TV in Devenport, Iowa Area. He initially served the station as a General Assignment Reporter and Photographer. Ted joined the station in December 2007 and after 3 years and 4 months, he left the station in March 2011.
Ted and his team at WIAT in Birmingham won prestigious awards for their coverage of the April 27th, 2011 tornadoes. His story about an elderly woman’s cat that re-emerged in Tuscaloosa weeks after the tornado devastated the area became viral and showcased his storytelling ability.
In addition to becoming an expert on tracking tornadoes, Ted also had the opportunity to report on Hurricane Isaac as it made landfall on the Gulf Coast. However, every winter when that giant Nor’easter was making landfall in New England, Ted missed it. As of 2024, Ted is a full member of the National Weather Association & American Meteorological Society.
