Christian Johansen Biography
Christian Johansen is an American Emmy Award-winning Science Teacher who worked at WDBJ7 News serving as a Meteorologist since he joined the station from April 2017 to July 2023. Prior to working at WDBJ7 News, Johansen worked at NPG Cable as a Chief Meteorologist.
Education | Career
Christian enlisted in the US Army as a communications specialist upon graduation from high school. After that, he relocated to Las Vegas, where he enrolled in a tiny community college and graduated with a degree in broadcasting. Following gaining experience in television as a production specialist behind the scenes, Christian decided to get in front of the camera.
After relocating to Denver, Colorado in 2007, he attended the Metropolitan State University of Denver to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. Christian pursued extreme weather and assisted the National Center for Atmospheric Research with weather research while he was living in Denver.
In 2012, Johansen began working as a reporter and weekend meteorologist at Fox 26 KNPN in St. Joseph, Missouri. He jumped right into the morning show, and two and a half years later he was made chief meteorologist. Christian has reported on significant snowfall, extreme weather, and flooding in Northeastern Kansas and Northwest Missouri.
Roanoke is the ideal fit for him because of his background in severe weather coverage, expertise in mountain meteorology, and passion for the great outdoors. Johansen wants to improve someone’s life by using his expertise and comprehension of the weather.
Christian is presently working as a Science Teacher for Roanoke County Schools since July 2023 following his stepping down from WDBJ7 News. He joined WDBJ7 News in April of 2017 serving as a meteorologist and exited from the network in July of 2023 upon gaining another employment.
