Frankie Katafias is an award-winning weather journalist working as a Weather Anchor and Reporter for KIRO 7 based in Seattle, Washington, United States. She joined the station in July 2022 after working for Idaho News 6 as a weather Anchor.

Education

Katafias went to Tesoro High School in 2008 and graduated with her high school diploma in 2012. She immediately joined the Dominican University of California for her Bachelor’s Degree, in Communication and Media Studies graduating in 2015. Further, Frankie is also a continuing student of Mississippi State University and is set to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology in May 2024.

Career

While still a student at the university, Katafias worked as an intern in Production and Promotions at Broadcast Company of the Americas in the Greater San Diego Area. In the same year, she also briefly interned at Red Tricycle in Sausalito, California as a Marketing and Communications person. Frankie then moved to Spoon University for yet another brief internship, she served there as a Remote Video Production.

These internships gave her enough work experience and following her departure from her last intern station, Frankie was lucky to land her first professional job at Cox Communications in Orange County, California Area. She served as a Freelance Reporter and Production Assistant for almost 2 years then left after getting another job.

Frankie’s next professional job was at KUSI Television where she served as a Sports Reporter and Producer for some time, less than a year. During this time, she was still working City of Lakewood, CA- City as a part-time Reporter and Production Assistant, she left the station in July 2018.

Katafias landed a job at Idaho News 6 in July 2018, this is the station she served the longest. Her roles first role was working as a Multimedia Journalist and Traffic Anchor, she worked in this capacity on a contract basis for more than 2 years.

Frankie was then moved to the position of a full-time Weekend Weather Anchor and Multi-Media Journalist, she served here for one year. Her next role was Morning Weather Anchor where she again worked full-time for over 4 years, she stayed in this position until July 2022 when she left the station for good after getting her current job.

Katafias currently works at KIRO 7 where she serves as a Weather Anchor and Reporter, she has been part of the station’s weather team since July 2022 after leaving Idaho News 6 which is based in Nampa, Idaho, United States.
