Simpson attended and graduated from Holly High School in 1998 He is also a 2001 graduate of Mississippi State University where he attained his Bachelor of Arts in Meteorology. While pursuing his degree, he interned for ABC 33. He also served as a weekend meteorologist for WTOK-TV in Meridian, Mississippi.
Simpson currently serves as a Chief Meteorologist for WVTM13 in Birmingham, Alabama. He has been part of the station since 2022. His career highlights include covering Hurricane Ivan, Hurricane Katrina, the tornado outbreak on April 27, 2011, and the 2015 North Alabama flash floods of Christmas.
Simpson began his career in Columbia, Missouri where he served KMIZ-TV as a meteorologist. Simpson then returned to ABC 33 as a morning meteorologist in 2004. In 2007, he earned the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal and in 2011 he was named the chief meteorologist for WHNT-TV, in Hurstville.
