Jean Jadhon Biography
Jean Jadhon is an American Emmy Award-winning Journalist working at WDBJ7 News serving as an Anchor and Reporter since she joined the station in September 1992. Formerly, Jadhon worked at Virginia Tech as an Adjunct Faculty Instructor.
Education
Jadhon received her bachelor’s degree from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia, and her master’s degree from St. John Fisher College, which is based in Rochester, New York. She has taught public speaking at Virginia Western Community College, broadcast news writing at Hollins University, and media writing at Virginia Tech.
Jean started at WHEC-TV News10NBC, as an intern while in college and was hired as a part-time assistant producer. She was then promoted to a full-time associate producer position before leaving to pursue on-air work.
Career
Jean is presently performing her duties as a 4 pm, 5 pm, and 6 pm weekday news anchor and reporter at WDBJ7 News station since she obtained employment at the network in September 1992. She also broadcasts news from the field and presents news portions during your Hometown Station’s weekday lifestyle show, 7@four.
Jean, who is originally from central New York State, began her reporting career in Binghamton, New York, and later moved to Syracuse, New York, to work for the ABC station. She then worked at the Fort Myers-Naples market on Florida’s Gulf Coast, producing and anchoring the weekday 10 o’clock news.
When Barack Obama visited Roanoke in 2008, Jean had exclusive backstage access for a one-on-one interview with the then-Senator Obama. Additionally, she also covered Obama’s presidential campaign stops in Virginia. Jadhon also covered the 2016 campaign stops in Virginia for Donald Trump. Both the Democratic primary gubernatorial debate in 2017 and the Virginia gubernatorial debate in 2013 that was broadcast statewide were moderated by Jean.
Jean worked at several stations before arriving at WDBJ7 News. She worked at WNPL-TV in Fort Myers, Naples, Florida, from September 1991 to September 1992, as a 10 pm news anchor and producer. She also worked at NewsChannel 9 WSYR, as a news reporter, producer, and fill-in anchor for a period of 2 years and 1 month. Jadhon also served at WBNG TV 12 in Binghamton, New York, as a full-time reporter and producer from September 1988 to September 1989. At the station, she produced the noon news and worked as a reporter for WBNG Action News at 6 pm.
WMGC-TV 34 News Station also had Jean as their Multimedia Journalist from August 1987 to September 1988 before she exited the network. Throughout her tenure, Jean produced and anchored morning cut-ins, including doing the weather report, running the assignment desk, and shooting and editing stories.
Virginia Tech Shooting Coverage
When a gunman opened fire on the Virginia Tech campus on April 16, 2007, it was one of the most difficult days of Jean’s professional life. For ten hours straight, Jean and her co-anchor, Keith Humphry, did a live broadcast without any commercial interruptions. CNN and CNN International broadcast live coverage of WDBJ7.
Jadhon said that they had been learning about the events as they had been broadcasting. She mentioned that it had been an emotional day. Jean added that it had been a day they had put everything they had ever learned to use. She expressed their hope that their coverage had helped in some way as they all dealt with the unfolding tragedy as a community.
Awards
In 2023, 2019, and 2017, Jadhon was named the Associated Press Broadcasters’ “Best Anchor” in the Virginias. Her reports on the man from Virginia who underwent the largest facial transplant in history have earned her multiple Emmy nominations.
These nominations include those for the 75th Anniversary of D-Day special, “Not So Sweet: The Truth About Diabetes,” live field anchoring coverage of President Trump’s visit to Liberty University, “From Glenvar to the Grammys,” which tells the story of a Roanoke County native’s rise to fame in country music, and tornadoes in Southwest Virginia.

The annual American Heart Association Roanoke Heart Ball and Heart Walk is emceed by Jean. She loves her Coton de Tulear, Sammy, and spends her leisure time traveling and lounging about the house with her spouse, friends, and family. She also has a fondness for chocolate, fashion, and shopping. In addition, Jean also enjoys swimming as a form of exercise and has always supported the Syracuse Orangemen.
