Kathy Sabine Biography
Kathy Sabine is an American Emmy Award Winning Meteorologist working as a Chief Meteorologist at 9NEWS in Denver, Colorado. She joined the station in 1993 and is the lead forecaster on the 4, 5, 6, 9, and 10 pm newscasts Monday through Friday.
Education | Career
Initially, Sabine studied Veterinary Science at Cal Poly University but later switched her major to Journalism. She later joined Metropolitan State College, earning her second degree in Meteorology. Kathy also holds seals from AMS and NWA.
After attaining her degree, she began her television career at the NBC affiliate in San Luis Obispo and then worked for ABC in Santa Barbara. She also held a Chief Meteorologist role at WNBC in New York. Sabine currently works as a Chief Meteorologist at 9NEWS in Denver, Colorado.
Kathy has been part of the station since the spring of 1993 and is currently the lead forecaster on the 4, 5, 6, 9, and 10 p.m. newscasts on weekdays. Additionally, she writes a daily weather forecast on 9NEWS.com. Over the years she has attained several awards and recognitions including the Heartland Emmy Awards, CBA awards, and two AP awards.
Additionally, she has won awards for storm chasing and was even named best weathercaster by the Douglas County Newspaper organization in several editions. Besides that, the Westword and 5280 have named her “favorite news personality” and “best weather anchor”. As of 2024, she is part of the Board of Directors for the Colorado Horse Council and the Colorado State Fair Foundation.
Besides her professional work, Kathy is also active in the community and volunteers her time to lend a helping hand in the community. She works with charitable organizations in the area and enjoys visiting school classrooms sharing her knowledge of weather and the environment with children. Kathy is also a member of Teen with A Dream (a youth cancer organization).
