Leo Hirsbrunner Biography
Leo Hirsbrunner is an American Award-winning Weather Forecaster working at WDBJ7 News serving as a Meteorologist since he joined the station in August 2000. Formerly, Hirsbrunner worked at WBOY-TV as a Chief Meteorologist.
Education | Career
Hirsbrunner attended Northern Vermont University at Lyndon in Lyndonville, Vermont, and graduated in 1997. There, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology with a Physics minor. Leo worked as a college intern at Providence, Rhode Island’s WPRI.
His first work after graduating was as a stand-in meteorologist at WVNY in Burlington, Vermont. He was employed by WBOY in Clarksburg, West Virginia, for his second job. Before joining WDBJ7 in August 2000 as the Weekend Meteorologist, Leo worked as the Chief Meteorologist for two and a half years at WBOY. Hirsbrunner’s dream since boyhood has been to become a meteorologist. At the tender age of five, he experienced the “Storm of the Century” in 1978, which sparked his eternal love of the weather. Its scorching winds and thick layer of snow ignited his passion. Now, he eagerly shares this passion with kids by regularly visiting many local schools Leo enjoys playing and watching ice hockey in his free time.
