Marie Harf Biography
Marie Harf whose full name is Marie Elizabeth Harf is an American political commentator working for Fox News Channel {FNC}. She was previously working for policy and communications for Representative Seth Moulton’s (D-Mass.) presidential campaign as a deputy campaign manager.
Education
Harf graduated from Granville High School in 1999, she then joined Indiana University Bloomington where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with concentrations in Jewish Studies and Russian and Eastern European Studies. Afterward, she joined the University of Virginia and earned a master’s degree in Foreign Affairs. During this time, she used her thesis to examine the prospects for ongoing regime stability in Saudi Arabia.
Career
Harf currently works as a political commentator for FNC, she joined the channel in 2017. Her professional career began at the Directorate of Intelligence at the CIA where she worked as an analyst and focussed on Middle Eastern leadership issues. With time, at the CIA Harf became the media spokesperson.
Harf has done many notable things in her life as a commentator. For instance, on national security issues, she served as campaign spokesperson and reportedly aided craft U.S. President Barack Obama’s national security and communications strategy in 2012. Besides, she served as the press spokesperson for Chuck Hagel during Chuck Hagel’s confirmation to be Secretary of Defense when Obama was re-elected to a second term of office. Following her experience during this time, she was lucky to be appointed Deputy Spokesperson for the Department of State in June 2013 serving under Jen Psaki.
On February 16, 2015, Marie had an interview on Hardball with Chris Matthews. This was the day before the release of a video by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) containing 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians in Libya as they were being beheaded, this interview attracted a lot of controversy. In her response, she said that they could not kill their way out of the war. She argued that they needed medium to longer-term to find the root causes of people joining those groups. However, she got a lot of ridicule on social media with the hashtag “#JobsForISIS”, which trended among the top 10 topics on U.S. Twitter.

Harf was working for Bloomberg News as the Acting Spokesperson until April 2015. She was replaced by the former U.S. Navy Rear Admiral John Kirby after his retirement. Harf had attended the interview to take the position of the Department of State Spokesperson but John Kirby took the position. Further, for the position of spokesperson of the U.S. Department of Defense in 2013, Harf was denied the opportunity and instead, it was given to Kirby. John worked under Chuck Hagel the Secretary of Defense.
However, Harf continued to serve as the Acting Spokesperson until May 13, 2015. She gave up the position on June 1, 2015. She then took a new role as Senior Advisor for Strategic Communications to Secretary of State John Kerry. During her tenure there, she was able to lead the Iran nuclear negotiations communications strategy.
Marie decided to leave the U.S. government service in January 2017 and joined Fox News Channel where she currently works as a political commentator. She then left FNC to go and work for Rep. Seth Moulton’s presidential campaign in May 2019. However, Rep. Moulton later suspended his campaign and Harf went to work as the Executive Director of the progressive Serve America PAC, also founded by Seth Moulton. In September 2019, Harf decided to go back to return to Fox News Contributor/ political commentator.
