Pete Yanity Biography
Pete Yanity is an American Sports Journalist working as a Sports Anchor and Reporter at WSPA-TV in South Carolina. He joined the station in October 1990 and can be seen on the station’s 6, 7, 10, and 11 pm newscasts. With over 3 decades of sports coverage experience, he is honored to be part of the WSPA-TV news team. Serving the South Carolina Folk is an honor for him and he said the passion and the job became one after joining 7NEWS (WSPA-TV).
Education | Career
Yanity attended and graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism in 1985. He currently works as a Sports Anchor and Reporter at WSPA-TV (7NEWS) in South Carolina. Pete has been part of the station since October 1990 and anchors 7NEWS’s 6, 7, 10, and 11 pm. He is honored to be part of the 7NEWS’s sports team and be part of the people who ensure the South Carolina people stay informed.
Before joining his current station he served as sports director at 7NEWS’ sister station, WBTW TV-13 in Florence, S.C., from March 1987 to October 1990. He also served the station as an assistant sports director and weekend sports anchor from August 1985 until March 1986. Pete has also served WBOY-TV in Clarksburg, W.Va.
Besides anchoring sportscasts, he also does extensive TV play-by-play assignments for Clemson, the ACC, the Southern Conference, and other entities for games seen on the Nexstar Network, CBS Sports Network, ESPN3, and Fox Sports, among other outlets.
Before assuming his current role at 7NEWS he served as the radio play-by-play voice of the Clemson Tigers for football and men’s basketball from 2003 through 2014 in addition to hosting the coaches’ TV shows for those sports. From 2001 to 2013 he worked as a sideline reporter on the Carolina Panthers preseason TV Network.
For over a decade years, Pete was the host of Wofford College’s football coach’s TV show and was inducted into the Spartanburg school’s Athletic Hall Of Fame as an Honorary Letterman in 2002. Over the years, he has covered events ranging from the World Series and Super Bowl to The Masters and Daytona 500.

Yanity’s work has not gone unrecognized and he has been a recipient of numerous awards, and recognitions. He was honored by the South Carolina Broadcasters Association as a Master Broadcaster in 2012, a lifetime achievement award presented by the organization. Additionally, he is a past recipient of many other honors including the South Carolina Sportscaster of the Year by The National Association of Sportswriters and Sportscasters, among many others.
