Rachael Ruiz is an American Anchor and Reporter working as a host, reporter, and anchor of “eightWest” which airs on weekdays at 11 am on WOOD TV8 in West Michigan. Before joining her current station in 1998 she worked as a Reporter at WJRT TV in Flint, Michigan.

Ruiz attended and graduated from Michigan State University with a journalism degree. Ruiz is currently a host and reporter on “eightWest,” which airs weekdays at 11 a.m. on WOOD TV8. In 2009, Ruiz helped launch the lifestyle and entertainment show. Before assuming her current role, Rachael worked as an anchor and reporter at the station.
As a part of “eightWest,” she continues her passion for storytelling but now focuses on topics like health, food, fitness, travel, and local business. Some of her “eightWest” adventures involve hot-air ballooning, flying a plane, skydiving with the U.S. Army Golden Knights, and skating with the Grand Raggidy Roller Girls. Additionally, she enjoys cooking alongside area chefs and showcasing restaurants on the show.
Rachael was born and raised in West Michigan and is proud to call Grand Rapids home. Her career has spanned the state. Before coming to WOOD TV8, she worked in television news in the Lansing and Flint/Saginaw markets. She worked as a Reporter at WJRT TV from 1997 to 1998.
Before WJRT TV she worked as a Reporter and Anchor at WILX TV in Lansing, Michigan for a year from 1996 to 1997. Rachael has served on the boards of many local organizations, including the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum, YWCA West Central Michigan, D.A. Blodgett for Children, and Friends of Grand Rapids Parks.
