Tom Hillen Biography
Tom Hillen is an American Anchor and Reporter working as an Editor and Photojournalist for Weekend Daybreak at WOOD TV8 in West Michigan. He has been part of the station since July 2010. At WOOD TV8 he started off as a Weekend Daybreak Reporter and then for New 8 Daybreak during the week. He is honored to be part of the WOOD TV8 News Team and is happy to serve the West Michigan Folk. Tom co-hosts WOOD TV8 lifestyle show “eightWest” alongside Rachael Ruiz.
Education | Career
Hillen attended and graduated from Central Michigan University’s School of Broadcast and Cinematic Arts with a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism. While in college he anchored for News Central 34. He currently works as an editor and photojournalist for Weekend Daybreak at WOOD TV8 in West Michigan. He joined the station in July 2010. Hillen is happy to serve the West Michigan folk and be part of the WOOD TV8 news team.
After joining WOOD-TV in July 2010, it wasn’t long before Tom took his talents to the other side of the camera and began reporting for Weekend Daybreak and then for News 8 Daybreak during the week. Tom has worked nearly every shift since then but ended up back on team Daybreak as the first-ever traffic anchor at News 8.
In the fall of 2023, he made the jump from anchoring News 8 at Noon to joining Rachael Ruiz as co-host of the lifestyle show “eightWest.” Even though he graduated from CMU, Tom is an avid Michigan State fan and has had the opportunity to cover the Spartans in the NCAA basketball tournament and the 2013 Big Ten Football Championship.
Additionally, Tom has also covered the Detroit Tigers in the World Series and reported from Florida when Tropical Storm Debby hit. He loves to travel and has been to all 50 states in the country as well as more than a dozen countries around the world.
